The Amazon Rising Exhibit at Shedd Aquarium interprets the habitats and the ways in which life in the Amazon basin has adapted to the annual flood cycle of the Amazon River.
The exhibit was designed by the in-house Exhibit Design team at Shedd. Magian worked with Shedd staff to refine all media exhibits and was also responsible for the creative design and production of all media in the exhibition. Magian was also responsible for the technical systems design and specification and all software development.
The Amazon Rising exhibition uses Magian's MMaP System for the delivery of content to all media programs. This capability allows Shedd staff to update and refresh content as science changes or new information come to light. The project also uses the Magian DiAC system to control all audio within the exhibits, including the naturalistic randomized soundscapes. Les Gilbert and Gillian Chaplin travelled to the Amazon in Peru to record audio, photography and video for the project.
Amazon Rising won numerous awards including the 2001 American Association of Museums award for Exhibit Excellence and the 2001 American Association of Zoos and Aquariums award for Best Exhibit.
